Whoever said there’s no place like home for the holidays clearly wasn’t an RV owner. When you have your own mobile paradise on wheels, home is wherever you park it. Spending the holidays on board your RV can be a fun and affordable way to get away from it all while still creating family memories that’ll last a lifetime. If you’re overwhelmed trying to decide where to go or wondering how you’ll host in such small quarters, we’re here to help.
RV CAMPING
Celebrating the holidays in an RV is a bit different than from within a foundation built home. For one thing, you likely don’t have the same amount of space meaning you might need to tone down the decorations. This doesn’t mean you can’t still make you RV festive though!
It’s probably not feasible to bring in a full sized tree unless you’re traveling in a spacious RV. Even if you have room, it’s a lot more convenient to buy an artificial tree, which doesn’t require watering and won’t leave pine needles on the floor. You’ll likely want one that’s smaller than the standard version to make it easier to move around while it’s set up. We’d also suggest finding one that’s pre-lit so you don’t have to go through the extra trouble of setting that up yourself. If you want to save even more space, you could even consider a tabletop tree.
Other easy ways to decorate include battery operated light strands, window decals, and even a simple bowl full of candy canes. When you’re spending the holidays at your favorite destination, it’s not hard to make the interior of your RV match the festive spirit.
CELEBRATING THE HOLIDAYS IN AN RV
Now that decorations are taken care of, it’s time to move on to the food. For many RV campers, having a full working kitchen is one of the most attractive parts of RVing. Many kitchens include everything you need to get the whole meal made. Of course, the facilities are likely smaller than standard size so you probably have to get creative when it comes to timing everything or downgrade to a slightly smaller main courses.
If you just can’t stand the idea of cutting a single corner of your holiday spread though, there are other options. For instance, imagine a dinner of steaks made on the grill. That doesn’t sound like much of a compromise, right? Most RV parks have grills available to use, but even if not, purchasing a small, portable grill isn’t expensive, and it’ll be something you can use year round.
Then if you’re concerned your oven won’t be able to churn out the assortments you want, consider investing in an instant pot, which you can bake in among other functions.
SPENDING THE HOLIDAYS IN RV PARKS
Now that the logistics are squared away, you need to determine where to go. Some fear RV parks will be more expensive because of the holidays. On the contrary though, winter isn’t a high demand travel season, which means most locations feature lower prices than warmer months.
